Frozen custard is the form of ice cream that you’ve always enjoyed when you make it yourself or when Grandma makes it for you. But, we’re taking the work out of it for you and Grandma and making it fresh everyday here at Joe Schmoe’s.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this delicious treat, frozen custard is a form of ice cream that is most popular in the Midwest and on the East Coast. First served to the public in 1919 on the boardwalk in Coney Island, NY it was an instant local crowd favorite. It was then widely popularized and became a Mid West favorite at the Chicago World Fair in 1933, and the rest is history.
What’s the difference in Frozen Custard and what you normally think of as ice cream, you ask? Frozen custard contains less than 2% eggs and that small amount of egg acts as a binder and emulsifier to help create that great creamy and smooth texture. Unlike regular ice cream or frozen yogurt, which are comprised of 40% air, frozen custard has only 18 - 20% air, which creates a much richer flavor.
Frozen custard is designed to be eaten fresh just like you would if Grandma was making it. Your taste buds will be delighted without being frozen.
If you’ve never tried frozen custard before, come give it a shot. We know you’ll love it!
